Kaye,
This is a very insightful post. The church, just like everyone else including all the brick and mortar businesses have got to get on board with this idea. It's is the way for them to increase their following and to reach more people on their level. Will all people look to social media from the church...probably not. But people will connect with the church more closely because of social media. There is a place for them here.

I serve on the Board of a non profit and they are making great headway because of social media.
Thanks!

Kaye, I agree that Social Media is where we are all headed and the Church would benefit from this medium as well! What a powerful way to form relationships, express views and let your voice be heard! Great post :)

Interesting discussion Kaye. I think in relatively simple terms. If the Church exists to witness to and share core Christian values and teachings, then communication is obviously essential.

St. Paul had to travel by ship and rocky roads to spread the Gospel. And after all that he could only address a handful of people at a time. Today, the Church can coordinate an even more effective campaign, reaching tens of millions of people on a regular and ongoing basis, but... the campaigns must be created and delivered.

I think you're right. Social Media must play a key role in all of this simply because... that's where the people are. And the message must be delivered to where they are, not where the Church is. Kind of like virtual missionary work I suppose. Thanks for some provocative insight.
